The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) program is a one-year graduate certificate program that prepares students for a rewarding career in the field of communication disorders. The program consists of three semesters, one of which includes two clinical field placements, totalling 15 weeks, which often leads to full-time positions.
Graduates
Graduates are passionate about helping others and they have the knowledge, skills, confidence and credentials to deliver a wide range of communication services to clients of all ages. CDAs work in partnership with speech-language pathologists and audiologists to provide speech and language therapy to children and adults, as well as perform speech, language and hearing screenings, including infant hearing screenings.
Employment
CDAs are trained to practice in a variety of settings including preschool speech and language programs, children's treatment centres, school boards, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, private speech and language clinics and audiology and hearing aid clinics.
In 2006, 91.3 per cent of graduates were employed as speech language pathology therapy assistants, CDAs, behavioral therapists and special-needs assistants with organizations such as Bloorview Kids Rehab, Bridgepoint Health, Grandview Children's Centre and the Toronto District School Board.
